WOMEN IN THE MAIN DECK

The last project in which TCT was involved, was promoted by Italy with the participation of Ireland , France and Holland .

A project subsidized by the EU was promoted from Italy ( Ancona ) with the collaboration of participants from Holland , France , Ireland and Spain (TCT, SLL). This project tried to throw light on women's work within the fisheries sector, until recently invisible. For this purpose, those initiatives trying to spread the role of woman and promote their association were supported. The result of this work is the foundation of Penélope Association by women belonging to this sector.

The role of women in the fishery activity is being rediscovered. McAllister report specifies women's participation in a 3% within the European fisheries sector. Faced with this information there are several questions to be thought, such as to what extent women's work within the family companies is recognized or to what extent they have social relevance in the organizations connected to fishery, shellfish or aquiculture.

TCT did a research with the aim of knowing the real situation of Basque women doing nine interviews (1 net worker, 2 neskatilak , 1 shellfisher, 2 administrative staff, 1 accountant, 1 shipowner and 1 manager) which showed their invisibility in this sector.
